Jeffrey R. Grable


Jeffrey Grable’s practice is devoted to the representation of clients in oil & gas and energy matters, including disputes and litigation as well as industry agreements and transactions. Mr. Grable has successfully represented large and small independent producers, land acquisition companies, royalty owners, working interest owners, midstream companies and landowners in a variety of legal matters involving the following:

  • Mineral ownership, conveyancing and title disputes
  • Royalty payment claims
  • Pooling and unitization claims including communitization and apportionment issues arising out nonparticipating royalty interests
  • Lease operations and development disputes
  • Lease termination claims, force majeure and lease savings provisions
  • Bonus disputes including sight draft issues and reclamation due to lapse in title
  • Operating agreements and working interest owner disputes
  • Joint interest billing and audit disputes and COPAS
  • Gas balancing and marketing claims
  • Executive rights disputes
  • Drilling contracts and service agreement disputes, including indemnification and insurance obligations
  • Mineral receiverships and title curative procedures
  • Litigation and disputes arising from typical industry pre-contract dealings including letters of intent and lease term sheets, confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements
  • Disputes over the use of geophysical and seismic data
  • Surface use disputes

In addition to these representative areas, Mr. Grable has successfully represented clients in the negotiation and documentation of easements and rights-of-way for pipelines and facilities and in condemnation proceedings for the same. Mr. Grable regularly counsels clients on a wide range of oil and gas issues and his transactional experience includes the negotiation and documentation of oil, gas & mineral leases, bonus agreements, assignments, deeds and related title instruments, letters of intent and term sheets and sale agreements among others. Mr. Grable is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He has been recognized on multiple occasions by Texas Super Lawyers, as a “Rising Star,” and by Fort Worth, Texas magazine as a “Top Attorney,” and is peer rated AV by Martindale Hubble.

Experience and highlights
  • Represented Fort Worth-based independent producer at trial court and court of appeals as prevailing party against publicly-traded international drilling contractor in dispute over early termination provisions of drilling contract and substantial damages claim. Obtained final judgment in favor of client and award of client’s attorney’s fees in trial court
  • Successfully represented lessor in producing Barnett Shale unit in eliminating claims of nonparticipating royalty interest owners in adjoining tract for share of production in client’s unit under communitization and apportionment theories
  • Successfully represented landowner client in Barnett Shale in natural gas pipeline and valve site acquisition negotiations and ensuing condemnation proceeding resulting in favorable settlement
  • Represented large independent producer as co-counsel in trial court in defense of trespass-to-try-title action over Barnett Shale unit acreage involving “strip-and-gore doctrine.” Obtained final judgment in client’s favor
