The United States Department of Labor (DOL) launches the Payroll Audit Independent Determination (PAID) program, a wage violation self-reporting program. Russell Cawyer's
blog post—entitled “Department of Labor Rolls Out Pilot Program for Employers to Correct Inadvertent Wage and Hour Violations
” and published on the Texas Employment Law Update—addresses a DOL pilot program that encourages employers to audit their pay practices and self-report any Fair Labor Standards Act violations they find. The DOL says that the PAID program aims both to allow parties to avoid litigation and to get employees any back wages they're owed. Employers are encouraged to audit their practices, flag any minimum wage or overtime violations they find, and report them to the DOL's Wage and Hour Division.
