Under the measure, most privately owned businesses operating in Austin would be required to provide employees with one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, for as much as 64 hours a year. The policy was set to take effect Oct. 1. Business interests and GOP leaders said the ordinance violates state law because it amounts to a city-mandated minimum wage.
